History:

The House of Laurent-Perrier was established by André Michel Pierlot, a former cooper and bottler. His son, Alphonse Pierlot, passed the house on to his chief winemaker, Eugène Laurent. Upon Eugène’s death in 1887, Mathilde Emilie Perrier, his widow, combined the two family names to dub the firm Veuve Laurent-Perrier. Grounded by her reputation for integrity, she developed and expanded the business, masterfully operating the house through World War I. In 1920, she partnered with Sir Alexander Fletcher Keith McKenzie to venture into the British market, clearing the way for Laurent-Perrier’s rise to international acclaim.

Eugénie Hortense Laurent, her daughter, inherited the House and sold it to Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt in 1939. Marie-Louise ran the firm through World War II. Her son Bernard—a decorated French Resistance fighter and the only one of his brothers to survive World War II—took over the property. After years of interning at Lanson and Deutz, he would be a rare business owner who had done all the jobs of his future employees. Bernard de Nonacourt was singularly dedicated to the success of Laurent-Perrier, and was responsible for growing the house from a small family business to the fourth largest Champagne house. He also introduced the house style of fermenting and aging the wine in stainless steel vats, as well as using a higher proportion of Chardonnay.

Even after Bernard’s passing in 2010, his drive and energy continues to be felt in the leadership of his daughters, Alexandra Pereyere de Nonancourt and Stéphanie Meneux de Nonancourt.

The Laurent-Perrier group also owns Salon, Delamotte, and De Castellane.
